Please go to the ICJ court records and show me where they said all previous research was illegal?
The Japanese are performing a non leathal siting survey this year, and during the summer they were in the North Pacific catching whales, but SS doesn't seem to give a toss about those whales as they never bother to mention them, let alone do anything to protect them. The Japanese have never caught 1035 whales, even before SS turned up so unless your going to discuss accurate numbers there is no point bringing them up. The average number of whales caught has always been around 450, because thats what the Nisshin Maru can actually carry, the quota was raised to its current number because the IWC said the sample size wasn't large enough to produce accurate data. You do understand how a scientific study works right? The larger the study is, the more accurate it is, so if you have a whale population thats somewhere between 600 000 and 1 000 000 just taking a handful of whales will tell you nothing. The whole world eh? There are 12 nations that hunt whales for food, including the USA, and yet SS only attack the two easiest targets, strange that

Is this forum for real? Do the creators have nothing better to do than watch TV and then sit and complain about it? (after a few searches on Wiki to back everything up i'm sure...then at least "research has shown".
In this day and age, everything that is "farmed" from the great whales that are slaughtered and butchered by these vessels is produced more efficiently and cheaper by synthetic means.
So, why are people still living in shanty towns in Japan after the Tsunami etc when those millions of dollars (30 million if i remember correctly) could have built 5000 homes AND THATS JUST FOR THAT ONE YEAR.
whale meat on your plates, bear bile for those intimate moments or getting some of those effected by disasters in basic, but clean and safe housing...i guess you decided didnt you Japan eh? it's more important that the rich have their perks for a bit longer

I found this site today and it I find it troubling that some folks are so narrow-minded, believing in propaganda after propaganda. Yes I am talking about the SS worshippers who talk big but are the worst hypocripts. Why must you folks defend whales so much? Did they ever help you get through a rough day at the office/coal mine? Did one of them ever come over for a visit and provide a pep talk? I can understand if the target animals have a special connection to individuals, but the reality is, common folks see whales and dolphins in the aquariums or entertainment centers or better yet big money whale watching cruises. news flash to all you whale lovers; have you thought about what deforestization does to the millions of precious species in south america? do you realize a shortage of bees in the world will cause a major destruction in the food industry? why don't you worry about things that affect you more directly? if the world dolphin population decreases by 1000 and whales by 500, how does it affect humans? hardly! it's a sad day when we lose perspective on priorities and reality....over n out.

Bizarre world, name says it all. The truth is the issues your talking about go hand in hand, I support Sea Shepherd but also support a whole host of environmental causes as do a great many SSCS supporters. Let me point out to you that we can't live on this planet with a dead ocean.

This whole dead ocean idea is total rubbish, nothing that SS actually does does anything to save the oceans or the endangered species in it. They have wasted millions of dollars trying to protect a species of whale that needs no help while totally ignoring endangered species that need all the help they can get.

You need only read the last line of this article.
Tokyo's revised proposals set an annual target of 333 minke whales for future hunts in the Antarctic, down from some 900 under the "Scientific Whale Research Program in the Antarctic Ocean" deemed illegal by the ICJ.
The court ruled the program was "not for the purposes of scientific research" and abused a scientific exemption set out in the 1986 international moratorium on whaling.
It concluded Tokyo was carrying out a commercial hunt and using science as a fig leaf.
Japan had made no secret of the fact the meat ends up on dinner tables.
After the ICJ ruling, Japan said it would not hunt during last winter's Antarctic season but has since expressed its intention to resume "research whaling" in 2015-16.
In March, Japan's whaling ships returned home from the Antarctic with no catch, as planned.
It was the first return without a catch since 1987 when the country began the annual "research" hunt in the Antarctic, according to local media.
Japan killed 251 minke whales in the Antarctic in the 2013-14 season and 103 the previous year, far below its target because of direct action by Sea Shepherd.

Two new ships that are missing major components, and 2 ships that were sold by the USCG because they have massive structural problems because of poor design. Yeah your onto a winner with those ones lol

I think "massive structural problems" are things reserved for skyscrapers and monuments. No need for hysteria.

Stop hating, just because your beloved whalers were exposed as the commercial operation they always have been. The two new boats are just fine of course they are stripped of the military gear duh! I can personally tell you they are good to go! Next!
